Our new DIY front door

We've been working on the front porch for a while this summer (see our original plans in this post)- our porch swing is now finished and we LOVE it. Hoping to reveal it in a post soon! One of the things on our porch list was to replace the front door. When we first moved in this is what the front porch looked like.
We swapped out the dated fixture with this $40 light from amazon pretty fast and painted the door a fun color and lived with it for about 8 months.
Once we recovered from the kitchen renovation (hah!) we decided what we wanted to do about the door. Its a nice door but the craftsman vibe didn't go very well with the rest of the exterior which has a decidedly farmhouse/ cottage look. I also wanted a full panel door for privacy but didn't want to spend $$$$ for a custom door. We looked and looked and ordered a simple door from Home Depot (it looks like our was discontinued but this one looks like it) and also two of these trim panels. (our total for the door ended up being about $230 (before paint and knocker) so much less than the $1200 ones I was looking at! The trim pieces are typically used for millwork (like under a dining room chair rail) but being painted and on a covered porch we knew they would hold up outside. This Rejuventation knocker was perfect and I scored it during a 20% off sale. We reused the simple door handle we had- I loved the clean lines so that saved us some money.
So here we are now! I love the custom look of the door and the privacy it gives- and the look meshes much better with our cottage/farmhouse look we have going on. Its amazing what a difference having a door that fits the style of the house does for curb appeal! I'm still trying to decide about the paint color and if it needs to be a more warm green- What do you guys think? xoxo
