DIY gold leaf edged BOOKS
I love little unexpected touches in design. I always stack my favorite books all over the house and adding some gold leaf on the pages makes them pretty no matter what angle you are looking at them from.
Gold is always a good idea and this DIY couldn't be simpler.
Pulled out my favorite liquid leaf and brushed it on the edges. I learned quickly to brush all the way across the book, don't stop halfway or it will show where you stopped and started painting. And yes, you can still open the books it didn't make any of the pages stick together, (Luke was totally worried about that)
Design sponge and domino are even better gold-leafed right?
YES! omg. yes to this.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! Gives the books some character and a great antique look.
ReplyDeleteI posted about books today too, I've got some of the same ones :). I absolutely LOVE the look of this, but I don't think I could do it! I know some people scribble notes in books too. I love that well loved feeling, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely try it with my notebooks though!
Such a fun idea! My planner has brushed gold edges and I love it.
ReplyDeleteI was just about to ask if it made any of the pages stick together. I love the way this looks–especially if you had a whole wall of books or something!
ReplyDeleteThis would be awesome with vintage books!
ReplyDeleteGold IS always a good idea! I would have NEVER thought to do this but it looks so cohesive!

ReplyDeleteWhich exact colour did you use here? I want a really bright and metallic gold. Also any stockists of it that will ship to Australia that you know of??
ReplyDeleteI tried this and the oil from the liquid leaf bled through the pages. Did this happen to your books?
ReplyDeleteI tried this and the gold leaf kept flaking off. Is this method purely ornamental or can it be used on books intending to be read and handled? I'd there a technique or finish to use or add to make the gilding more permanent?
ReplyDeleteCould you do this on a Bible? Also if there's pen marks on the sides, will the gold leaf be opaque enough to cover it?
